| Cairns Travel |
| Reef and rainforest is very much the theme of Northern Queensland, with Cairns as the gateway providing a perfect base from which to explore. With a myriad of sightseeing options to choose from, you will find wide tree-lined streets, excellent shopping, a good selection of restaurants and an attractive swimming lagoon in the heart of the city.Just 20 minutes from Cairnes are the beaches of Trinity, Kewarra, Palm Cove, Ellis Beach and Port Douglas (great access to the reef) stretching for 26kms along a beautiful coastline, with jungle-clad mountains and crystal-clear freshwater lakes. The Kuranda Scenic railway or Skyrail is a must - travel pass tropical rainforests and the stunning Barron Gorge waterfalls. The rainforests in this region are very special offering the greatest diversity of flora and fauna and our rainforest retreats are nestled within Daintree and Cape Tribulation National Parks. The Tropical Tablelands offer crystal clear lakes, magnificent waterfalls and high mountain lookouts. |

|
| Transport |
There are local bus services in and around Cairns, but hiring a car or 4WD during your stay is by far the best way to travel. Alternatively, most of the major attractions near the city are well-serviced by coaches or bus links. Taxis are a handy way of getting around Cairns itself. |

| Cost of Living |
Cairns is a tourist haven and that is reflected in the prices. But it still is a clear winner when compared to southern rivals like the Gold Coast. |
|
| Health and Hospital |
Like most parts of Australia, Cairns has excellent medical services for travellers. But taking precautions is better than treatment in every case. Always slap on the suncream and wear a hat, as well as drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Insect repellents will help ward off the insects and mosquitoes that are looking for a quick bite |

Far North Queensland considers itself almost another state, and its inhabitants are as laid-back and relaxed as the gentle waves that lap the coast. Things aren"t always done in a rush, so be patient. Leave a tip at restaurants. |
